so i definitely cried when i said goodbye to flora yesterday. it was my last day at jane addams bookshop, working with flora as the owner. it is weird for me to think of not being there, even though i worked so few hours. it has such a great vibe and i will miss it’s charm for sure. i hope the new owners keep it up and improve the beautiful collection it’s taken flora twenty years to build.
by the way, check out the jab window display when you walk down neil street. it kicks ass. and yes, there are three strands of christmas lights. is it too much? hope you said no.

i sometimes feel like there is this other little lady hanging out inside my body saying things like keep going, one more page, one more block, one more hour. other times she is replaced by this negative little asshole, in need of an ass kicking herself, saying that’s enough, no more, you can get by. well, today i was fortunate enough to have the motivated lady. she told me to function on one hour of sleep, buy yarn, do math homework, drive to school, read, go running, do crunches, and now go to work. i sincerely hope she says go to bed when i get home because her eyes are too big for her head and i hope i don’t pass out from exhaustion.

I want to make sure I cover all necessary topics in the You Are Among Friends book (which will be published by the holidays, by the way! Start your letters to Santa now!). In writing the zine, I wrote directly to my memory of my twelve-year-old self. In the book, not only do I want to address a wider audience, but I also want to address a range of concerns wider than the ones I personally dealt with most.

Girls, ladies, women: What were you most concerned about as an adolescent? What made you deliriously happy? What did you worry about? What made you cry so much that your dad scolded you at the dinner table to “quit crying all the time?” (Oh. Just me, then?)
